What is in the Color Yellow?

From the Western Governors University, Texas “The Color Yellow” is described as the lightest hue of the spectrum, uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. The university further states Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism as well as challenge the mind.

Wow! All that from one little color! Let’s look at a few ways we can use Yellow in our homes. In poorly lit hallways, yellow shows the way. In bedrooms it lifts the mood. But be careful how much and how intense you make the yellow. If the hue is too bright, yellow can look too strong and become an irritant.

I have used Sherwin Williams #6128 Blonde as the base coat to the interior of my home. In some areas I have toned it down with a “tea stain” glaze.

Yellow can be used in accessories to lift the spirits of the room. Fabrics that blend yellow with greens and reds and even blues make a room cheerful. Soft yellows and gold’s are very easy on the eye – a perfect backdrop for rejuvenating at the end of the day.

The Tuscan style of decorating has been popular in recent years. Honey and mustard yellow walls seem to be the canvas for other colors such as terracotta, dark browns, apricot and blue, with a dash of scarlet or olive/moss green strategically woven through the room.

Follow these simple suggestions for using yellow in your décor and you’ll be truly inspired by the outcome.

  • Use small accent pillows, vases, and candles to start your yellow décor.
  • Use soft tones of yellow on your walls and larger pieces of furniture.
  • Mix yellow with other colors to introduce the color to any room.
  • Try mixing several shades of yellow in the same room.
Decorating with yellow may be difficult, but the rewards are worth it. You come away with a bright, cheerful, dramatic and debonair room.

Window Treatment Ideas

Window Treatment Ideas
We all want our homes to be a paradise – a beautiful oasis of peace amidst the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.  Allowing the natural sunlight to bathe each room is a great way to make our home a comfortable nest.  Choosing the right window coverings is critical for allowing the amount of sunlight you want in each room.

Wooden blinds, shutters and blackout draperies are great for rooms with extreme exposure to the elements.  Other options for windows with less exposure to the sun can be covered with shadings, sheers and lighter weight drapery fabrics.  Both options can also provide the privacy that you need.

Visit our website, www.carolscustomdraperies.hdwfg.com to learn more about the solutions we offer.  We also invite you to visit our showroom, a Hunter Douglas Gallery dealer just north of Dallas/Ft. Worth in Denton. The address is 112 W. Oak Street on the historic downtown Denton square.  We leave no stone unturned to provide you with the best possible solution for your needs.

Buying Window Treatments

Window Treatments - Hunter Douglas Duette Architella shades
I have always believed in being a “smart buyer,” someone who doesn’t buy products or services on a whim or just because a neighbor or an acquaintance bought something flash and I should be jealously obliged to follow suit. When it comes to treating the windows, one should always buy a drapery or shade for the right reason.

There are various reasons why a serious buyer goes window treatment shopping:
  • The most popular reason for covering the window is for temperature control.  Hunter Douglas Duette Architella shades can be highly effective in controlling the heat loss or heat gain of a room without having to spend money on expensive air cooling equipment.
  •  People also buy window treatments for privacy and security reasons.

Apart from other reasons, aesthetics should be kept in mind.  Color and texture should reflect the mood and style of the room.  Accent your windows with valances and stationary panels beautifully displayed on decorative drapery rods.  This could also be a good place to bring color into an otherwise monochromatic setting.

In the near future, our blog will feature articles that will enhance your awareness of different aspects of window treatments. Please visit again and share your experiences with your window treatments. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to share them below. We love to hear from you, our customers.
